Biological contamination control - Coriolis
The Coriolis product line includes a ruggedized bio-aerosol sampler dedicated to CBRN RECON teams or first responders. These units are suited for bio-surveillance and quick deployment in case of an event with bio-threat suspicion. They are efficient, portable and have been ruggedized for use in an unfamiliar environment. These products have been designed to collect large concentrations of aerosols in the breathable range of 0.5 to 10 μm, thus being more representative of the environment than traditional bio-aerosol samplers. ASAP II Collection/Bio-identification System This system continuously monitors for the presence of aerosol biohazards and will identify biological agents ranging from protein toxins to whole cells and spores as frequently as every 15 to 30 minutes. It is an integration of Research International's proven SASS 2300 multiple-effect aerosol sampling technology combined with its RAPTOR four-channel bio-identification system. The ASAP II is typically provided with a small constant-temperature environmental enclosure that maximizes reagent life and unattended monitoring time or on request can be provided in component form for minimum weight and volume. One system has been successfully working in a major bank system mailroom for over 3 years with 99.3% functional availability and 0.01% false alarm rate. RAPTOR 4-Channel Bioassay System A small, portable 4-channel system for monitoring biological agents, toxins, explosives, and chemical contaminants. It performs user-defined, multi-step, assay protocols for monitoring fluorescently labeled chemical reactions occurring on the surface of each of the system's four disposable optical waveguide sensors. The system has been demonstrated to effectively detect several different biological agents, including Bacillus anthracis, Yersinia pestis, Brucella abortus, Francisella tularensis, Staphylococcal enterotoxin type-B (SEB), and Escherichia coli 0157:H7. Typical assay sensitivities are in the 1 ppb range. Up to 20 or more assays may be performed before discarding the system’s disposable assay coupon, reducing cost per assay. RAPTOR is one of only seven portable bio-identification products worldwide to receive U.S. Department of Homeland Security Certification under the U.S. Safety Act of 2002. AIR SAMPLERS SASS® 2300 Wetted-Wall Air Sampler The SASS 2300 is a portable multi-stage wetted-wall cyclone sampler that extracts particulates and water-soluble chemical vapors from air and transfers them to a liquid phase for later detection and analysis. It is highly automated and can be easily carried by a single person, and operate unattended for extended time periods. It is the only wet-type air sampler shown to efficiently collect virus-sized particles, and has been successfully used to detect the airborne viral pathogens that cause exotic Newcastle disease and foot-and-mouth disease, as well as some strains of avian flu virus. Furthermore, it is the only portable sampler technology to receive U.S. Department of Homeland Security Certification under the U.S. Safety Act of 2002. SASS®3100 Dry Air Sampler The SASS 3100 is a portable low power dry air sampler. The system collects particulates on a filter cartridge that is snapped onto the inlet of the device. It is particularly efficient at sampling small particles, with a 50% cut rate at 0.5 microns. The filters used in the cartridges are 44 mm in diameter, allowing them to be easily cultured in standard-sized Petri dishes. Alternatively, particulates may be extracted from the filters for assay analysis purposes using the SASS 3010 Particle Extractor. SASS®3010 Particle Extractor The SASS 3010 is used to extract and transfer to a small fluid volume, aerosols captured by Research International’s electret filters. The extraction process takes less than 60 seconds. Extraction efficiencies are typically in the range of 60 to 80%. SASS® 4000 Concentrator The SASS 4000 is a highly efficient, high-volume aerosol concentration device. The SASS 4000 Concentrator processes 3,600 LPM of ambient air, continuously transferring particulates from this primary air stream to a much smaller secondary airflow. As a result, the secondary flow can reach aerosol concentrations that are 5X to 15X higher than present in the incoming air. The concentrator therefore amplifies the ambient aerosol concentration, retaining most of the particles that were present in the incoming airflow in the secondary flow. SASS® 4100 Two-Stage Aerosol Collector The SASS 4100 Two-Stage Aerosol Collector builds upon the design of the SASS 4000 Concentrator by directing the secondary air through an electret bulk filter media from which the particles can later be extracted for detection and analysis. IRT (formally TVI & STI) opened its doors on January 28th, 1977 when it introduced its patented Radiant Heating Panels to the commercial marketplace. In 1980, IRT (formally TVI & STI) responded to a request from the Department of Defense (DoD) for technical assistance in the area of military thermal targets. The DoD was interested in the application of IRT's (formally TVI & STI) radiant heating panel technology to the development of thermal targets in support of M60A3 tank gunnery training and certification. In the mid 1980's, as part of the Thermal Target/Decoy program, IRT (formally TVI & STI) tested and evaluated a number of the then-available off-the-shelf articulating frames to be used as support structures for combat targets and decoys. It was immediately apparent that none of the available frame structures had sufficient structural integrity to meet the U.S. Army's requirements. As a result, IRT (formally TVI & STI) designed, developed, and began manufacturing its own Lightweight, Quick-Erect Aluminum Frame. The IRT (formally TVI & STI) frame met the Army's test requirements and was subsequently used as the primary support structure for the Two, Two and One-Half, and Three-Dimensional Multi-Spectral Targets and Decoys. Subsequently, and during acceptance testing for the Multi-Spectral Close Combat Decoy (MCCD) program, IRT (formally TVI & STI) engineers recognized the potential of the three-dimensional Target/Decoy frame as a support structure for a rapidly deployable tent. As a result, IRT (formally TVI & STI) Quick Erect Shelters emerged as a direct spin-off of the Multi-Spectral Thermal Target/Decoy Program. After a successful initial launch within the commercial sector, IRT (formally TVI & STI) produced and demonstrated its first 400 sq. ft. Quick Erect Shelter to the U.S. Army in 1986. That shelter was successfully used in functional applications such as a mobile command post and as a sheltered dining area during the U.S. Army's in-country demonstration of the MI Abrams for the Saudi Arabian military. For several years thereafter, IRT (formally TVI & STI) continued to produce a number of one-of-a-kind special purpose quick-erect shelters for various DoD agencies. The onset of the Gulf War instigated an increasing demand for rapid deployment and high mobility, and the value and mass appeal of quick erect shelters quickly gained widespread recognition and appreciation. Of significance here is the date of September 11th, 2001. Commencing at approximately midday on that date, and for the days that immediately followed, IRT (formally TVI & STI) deployed all of its available shelters in direct support of rescue and recovery efforts at the Pentagon. IRT (formally TVI & STI) response to the results of the attack on the Pentagon triggered widespread national and international interest in our readily deployable lightweight shelters. This interest has, in turn, propelled IRT (formally TVI & STI) to its current position as the recognized leader in the fields of rapidly deployable consequence management, decontamination, and field service related shelters. In late 2005, IRT (formally TVI & STI) acquired Safety Tech(tm) International, Inc. (STI) based in Maryland. STI (now known as IRT, Inc.) is a leader in the design, development and manufacture of Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs) for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) protection. Gentex sells the Rampart suit to a variety of municipal, state and federal law enforcement agencies. chemical vapor protective gloves The Gentex chemical vapor protective gloves provide a breathable comfortable alternative to the system currently in use for pilots. The gloves have found acceptance by tactical ground users as well. The system replaces the cotton inner glove, the butyl glove and the Nomex flight glove with a single glove, providing the wearer with much more comfort and extended wear. Patient IsolationUnit (PIU®) The GENTEX Patient Isolation Unit (PIU®) is a temporary, single-use, portable structure that is designed to fully contain and transport a patient and prevent particulate cross-contamination between the patient, the external environment and the caregivers. The PIU is designed to enable medical care-giving to the patient via integrated medical bulkheads interfaced with end-user supplied medical products and equipment. Atmospheric Transport & Dispersion — ENSCO conducts real-world, operational analysis of complex, multi-layer, meteorology-driven transport. We design, develop and apply meteorological models to simulate these environments and conditions leading to capture of a signal. We have performed climatological studies, meso-scale model evaluations, and numerous transport and dispersion model comparisons, including the prediction of the extent and timing of hazard plumes. Detector Placement Optimization Application— Protecting the warfighter from CBRN threats requires early and accurate detection of hazards to minimize casualties and reduce risk. The probability of detection can be significantly increased through optimal placement, performance and density of detectors. ENSCO offers an automated detector placement decision support tool that enables CBRN defense specialists to optimize the location and number of detectors needed to fully increase the probability of detection of threats. Implementation of the tool increases the overall effectiveness of the CBRN detection system, improves reliability and maintainability, and reduces consumables and life-cycle cost. Source Estimation— Rapidly identifying the source of a CBRN attack is critical to determining the timing and extent of the hazard zone and its impact on the operational capability of the warfighter. ENSCO has developed an approach that combines detector signal output, hazard model forward and backward trajectories, and plume/puff dispersion characteristics to converge on source-location solutions. ENSCO's SENTRY is a CBRN early warning, force protection/civil response command and control (C2) system, which includes many security-related features. The system has the ability to fuse disparate sensor information, including CBRN, video, access control, expert knowledge, meteorological, and HVAC, into an “event.” Once an event is established, SENTRY runs meteorological and dispersion models to predict the agent fate. This forecast of the event turns sensor data into knowledge that provides the operators and decision makers with situational understanding. SENTRY can control the HVAC system, monitor the collective protection system, and can cue facility alarm and evacuation systems, minimizing response time. SENTRY was used at the 2002 Winter Olympics and is currently providing 24/7 CBRN protection for critical government facilities.
